At the 2009 Monaco Yacht Show, Quantum displayed their latest innovation in Zero Speed™ system refinement. The new, patented XT™ fin series has been designed to overcome a number of challenges in fitting these dual purpose systems to larger vessels. The modern “ultra yacht” designs are calling for higher volume hull forms which are not always conducive to fitting the stabilizer fin area required for stabilizing ships at rest (zero speed). Additionally, most of these super sized vessels have designed service speeds in excess of 20 knots which dictates that appendage drag be minimized as much as possible.

The XT™ (extendable fin) system delivers Zero Speed™ performance while reducing both footprint and appendage drag. The variable geometry of the fins allows for the use of the foils (extensions) only when needed: at anchor. When the vessel is underway, the extensions will retract into the fin body to reduce drag. XT™ systems are especially well suited for vessels with high service speeds. In many cases, the availability of XT™ fins means that your vessel may have two fins (rather than four) and retain Zero Speed™ capability.
